Actis Plans $2 Billion India Renewable Energy Platform
The London-based investor is said to be building a new clean-energy business in India, according to a report by Energy Connects.
Actis, the London-headquartered infrastructure investor, is planning to set up a $2 billion renewable energy platform in India. The news was first reported by Energy Connects on September 30, 2026.
The platform would focus on clean energy projects in the country, though the report did not specify which technologies or regions would be targeted. Actis has a long history in Indian renewables, having backed companies like Ostro Energy and Sprng Energy in the past.
India's renewable energy sector has drawn billions in foreign investment over the past decade. The government aims to install 500 gigawatts of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030, up from about 180 gigawatts today. That gap has made the market attractive to global funds.
Actis declined to comment on the reported plan. The company has not publicly confirmed the $2 billion figure or the timing of any new platform.
If the plan goes ahead, it would add to a growing list of large-ticket renewable platforms in India. In recent years, investors such as Brookfield, Macquarie, and Singapore's GIC have committed billions to Indian solar, wind, and transmission assets.
The reported move comes as India's renewable sector faces both opportunities and challenges. Solar tariffs have fallen to record lows, but land acquisition, transmission bottlenecks, and payment delays from state utilities remain persistent hurdles.
Actis has been active in India since 2008. It sold Ostro Energy to ReNew Power in 2018 and later exited Sprng Energy in a deal with Shell. The firm also invests in other emerging markets across Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
Energy Connects reported the story on its website, citing unnamed sources. The report did not name any partners or financial backers for the proposed platform.
India's renewable energy capacity stood at about 180 gigawatts as of mid-2026, with solar accounting for nearly half. The country added a record 18 gigawatts in the previous fiscal year, according to government data.
Foreign investors have shown renewed interest in India's clean energy space after a period of policy uncertainty. Recent moves to streamline land approvals and improve grid infrastructure have helped. Still, analysts say execution risks remain high.
Actis is said to be planning the platform as part of its broader Asia strategy. The firm has not set a timeline for the launch. More details are expected in the coming months.
