Mercedes-Benz will launch the all-new electric GLC in India on November 4, according to a report by ET Auto. The announcement puts a date on the German carmaker's next big electric push in the country.

The GLC is Mercedes-Benz's volume seller worldwide, and an electric version of that nameplate matters more than another low-volume flagship. It slots into the brand's growing EQ line-up in India, which already includes the EQS, EQE and EQB.

Why the GLC EV matters for India

Luxury electric car sales in India are still small in absolute numbers, but they're growing. Mercedes-Benz has been the most aggressive of the German trio, Mercedes, BMW and Audi, in bringing EVs here. Local assembly of the EQS SUV began at the company's Chakan plant in Maharashtra, a move that helped it price the car lower than a full import would allow.

Whether the electric GLC gets assembled locally or arrives as a fully built import will shape its price. That detail isn't in the ET Auto report. Expect it to be a talking point between now and November 4.

The car itself sits on Mercedes's MB.EA platform, a dedicated electric architecture rather than a converted combustion chassis. That usually means a flat floor, more cabin space and a bigger battery pack than a retrofit would allow. Exact range, battery size and charging figures for the India-spec car haven't been shared yet.

The competition

When it lands, the electric GLC will go up against a small but real set of rivals:

  • BMW iX3, which is also due for a full model change
  • Audi Q6 e-tron, already on sale in some markets
  • Volvo EX60, expected in the coming years
  • Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6, which sit below the German badge but compete on range and price

Mercedes-Benz India hasn't confirmed pricing or variant details. The company has said in the past that it wants EVs to make up a quarter of its India sales by 2027, a target that depends on cars like this one.

Charging remains the bigger hurdle. India's public fast-charging network is thin outside major highways and metros, and most luxury EV buyers charge at home. Mercedes has tied up with charging operators in the past to offer its customers access, but the network is still far behind what buyers in Europe or China expect.

The November 4 launch will be watched closely by rivals. If Mercedes prices the electric GLC close to the petrol version, it could pull buyers who were sitting on the fence. If it's priced at a steep premium, it becomes a niche statement car.

More details, range, battery, price, local assembly, should come out at the launch event.
