Orb Energy has completed 20 years of solar power work in India, Manufacturing Today India reported on October 19, 2026. The Bengaluru-headquartered company has spent those two decades in a sector that has changed almost beyond recognition since it started.

The company builds solar photovoltaic modules at its own manufacturing facility. It also sells and installs rooftop solar systems, mainly for commercial and industrial customers. That combination of making panels and putting them on roofs has been Orb's core business through the period.

Two decades in a shifting market

When Orb began operations, India's solar sector was small. Rooftop solar was a niche product, and most businesses looked at diesel gensets for backup power. Grid tariffs were the default. Solar was the expensive alternative.

That has flipped in many parts of the country. Module prices have fallen sharply. Rooftop systems now pay back in a few years for many commercial users, and the government has pushed hard on domestic manufacturing through schemes tied to solar cells and modules.

Orb's manufacturing line puts it among the Indian firms that make their own panels rather than importing and rebadging. The company has kept its focus on the rooftop segment, where system design and installation quality matter as much as the hardware.

What the milestone covers

The 20-year mark covers the company's full run, from its early rooftop projects to its current manufacturing output. Manufacturing Today India's report frames the anniversary as a milestone for solar innovation in the country.

Details on current capacity, order books or expansion plans weren't part of the report. Nor were financial figures. The company hasn't put out a separate statement on the anniversary that this outlet has seen.

India's rooftop solar market has grown fast, but it's also crowded. Large domestic players, imports and a wave of new installers compete for the same commercial rooftops. Firms that make their own modules carry a cost advantage on paper, though they also carry the capital burden of a factory.

Orb has stayed in the game for 20 years. In Indian solar manufacturing, that's not a small thing. Several early entrants have folded, been bought, or moved to trading.

The anniversary comes as India pushes to scale domestic module production. Whether Orb expands its line or holds its current position is a question the company hasn't answered publicly.
