Tata Sierra EV Launched at Rs 18.79 Lakh, Claims 665 km Range
Tata Motors has launched the Sierra EV at a starting price of Rs 18.79 lakh, with a claimed range of 665 km, marking the return of an iconic nameplate in electric form.
Tata Motors launched the Sierra EV on Monday at a starting price of Rs 18.79 lakh (ex-showroom). The electric SUV revives a classic nameplate from the 1990s, now built on the brand's new Acti.ev architecture.
The company claims a range of 665 km on a single charge, based on ARAI certification. That figure puts the Sierra EV among the longest-range electric cars sold in India today.
Price and Variants
Tata has offered the Sierra EV in three trims. The base variant starts at Rs 18.79 lakh. The mid-spec version costs Rs 20.49 lakh. The top-end trim is priced at Rs 22.49 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom.
The car is available in five colour options: Cosmic Gold, Stardust Silver, Lunar White, Midnight Black, and Electric Blue.
Battery and Performance
Tata Motors has not disclosed the battery pack size yet. But the company says the Sierra EV uses a 60 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The motor drives the front wheels and produces 150 kW of power (roughly 201 bhp) and 315 Nm of torque.
Tata claims a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 8.5 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 150 km/h.
The car supports fast charging. Using a 150 kW DC fast charger, Tata says the battery can go from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes. A standard 7.2 kW AC charger will take roughly 9 hours for a full charge.
Design and Features
The Sierra EV keeps the boxy silhouette of the original but gets modern touches. It has a full-width LED light bar at the front and rear. The doors open conventionally, unlike the original's suicide doors.
Inside, the cabin gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A 7-inch digital instrument cluster sits behind the steering wheel. The car also gets ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, and a 360-degree camera.
Tata has fitted the Sierra EV with connected car tech. The iRA app lets owners lock and unlock doors, check battery status, and pre-cool the cabin remotely.
Safety
The Sierra EV comes with six airbags as standard. Electronic stability control, hill-hold assist, and a tyre pressure monitoring system are also standard. Tata says the body structure uses high-strength steel and meets the latest crash safety norms.
Market Context
The Sierra EV enters a crowded segment. Rivals include the MG ZS EV, the Hyundai Kona Electric, and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki eVX. At its price point, the Sierra EV undercuts several competitors on starting price while offering a higher claimed range.
Bookings opened on Monday. Tata Motors says deliveries will begin in April 2025. The company plans to produce the Sierra EV at its plant in Pune, Maharashtra.
Tata Motors has bet big on electric vehicles. The Sierra EV is the fourth model on the Acti.ev platform, after the Curvv EV, the Punch EV, and the Harrier EV. The company has a target of selling 50,000 electric cars in the financial year 2025-26.
