GH2 Solar Signs PPA with SECI for 50 MW Solar and 100 MWh Battery Storage
The power purchase agreement pairs 50 MW of solar with 100 MWh of battery storage, with SECI as the offtaker.
GH2 Solar has signed a power purchase agreement with the Solar Energy Corporation of India for a 50 MW solar project paired with 100 MWh of battery energy storage, the company said. Energetica India Magazine reported the deal on October 13, 2026.
The PPA covers a single project combining generation and storage. SECI, the government-run agency that aggregates renewable power demand and runs most of India's utility-scale tenders, is the offtaker.
Storage is the part worth watching. A 100 MWh battery alongside 50 MW of solar works out to roughly two hours of discharge at full capacity. That's enough to shift some evening generation past sunset, when India's grid leans hardest on coal and gas. It won't run the plant through the night.
Why pairing matters
India has added solar at a furious clip, and the grid has paid for it. Midday prices on the exchanges have collapsed in several states as solar output peaks. Storage lets a developer hold some of that power and sell it later, when it's worth more.
The tender route matters too. SECI has been folding storage requirements into its solar auctions, and developers who bid must now factor in battery costs that have moved around a lot in the past two years. Lithium prices fell through 2024 and 2025, which made storage-backed bids easier to pencil out. Whether that holds is another question.
GH2 Solar hasn't disclosed the tariff, the project location, or the commissioning timeline. Those details usually surface once the PPA is registered and the developer starts ordering equipment.
What's not in the announcement
- Tariff per unit and whether it's indexed
- Site and state
- Battery chemistry and supplier
- Expected date of commercial operation
None of that is unusual at the signing stage. PPAs in India are often announced before land and transmission connectivity are fully tied up, and the hard numbers come out later through regulatory filings.
The deal adds to a growing stack of SECI-backed solar-plus-storage contracts. Developers have been signing them steadily since the agency began bundling storage into tenders, though execution has lagged in some cases because of transmission bottlenecks and module supply.
For GH2 Solar, the PPA gives the company a long-term offtake anchor with a central agency, which helps when raising debt. Lenders tend to look more kindly on a SECI counterparty than on a state discom with a patchy payment record.
The company did not say when construction starts.
