Smarten Launches Hybrid Inverters for Indian Solar Market

Smarten has launched a line of hybrid inverters for the Indian solar market, the company said, adding to a product category that pairs rooftop solar with battery storage.

Hybrid inverters do two jobs at once. They convert direct current from solar panels into alternating current for household or commercial use, and they manage a battery bank so power stays available when the grid goes down or the sun does. That combination has drawn interest from Indian buyers dealing with outages and rising grid tariffs.

The company announced the products through a market release picked up by Saur Energy. Smarten did not disclose pricing, capacity ratings, or a shipping date in the material available.

Why hybrid inverters matter in India

India's rooftop solar push has mostly favored grid-tied systems, which are cheaper but shut off during an outage. Adding batteries raises the upfront cost, yet it keeps lights and fans running through cuts. For households in smaller towns and for shops that can't afford downtime, that trade-off is often worth it.

The segment is getting crowded. Established players and newer entrants have all moved into hybrid and storage-ready inverters over the past few years, betting that falling battery prices and state subsidies will pull buyers away from plain grid-tied kits.

Smarten already sells solar inverters, batteries, and related equipment in India. The hybrid range extends that portfolio rather than opening a new one.

What's still unclear

  • Prices and warranty terms
  • Output capacities and whether single-phase and three-phase options are both offered
  • Battery compatibility, including whether the inverters work with lithium-ion packs or only lead-acid
  • Availability across states and dealer networks

Those details will decide how the launch lands. Buyers comparing hybrid inverters weigh efficiency, battery support, service reach, and net cost after subsidy. A brand known for solar products can lean on its existing service network, but it still has to compete on specs.

The launch comes as India's solar installations keep climbing and storage becomes the next battleground. Grid operators want more flexible capacity. Homeowners want backup. Inverter makers are caught in the middle, and hybrid units are their answer.

Smarten hasn't said when the inverters will reach shelves.
