Swelect Energy Systems launches solar hybrid inverters from 5 kW to 50 kW for C&I

Swelect Energy Systems has introduced a range of solar hybrid inverters for commercial and industrial (C&I) customers, sized from 5 kW to 50 kW. The company announced the launch on Friday.

Hybrid inverters do two jobs at once. They convert direct current from solar panels into grid-ready alternating current, and they manage a battery bank on the same circuit. For a factory or an office block, that means solar can keep running through an outage instead of shutting down with the grid.

The new line covers a wide band of system sizes. A 5 kW unit suits a small shop or a clinic. At the top end, 50 kW can carry a mid-sized industrial roof.

Why the C&I segment matters

India's rooftop solar market has leaned on homes and small businesses for years. The C&I segment is harder to crack. Loads are bigger, power quality matters, and buyers want a payback number they can defend to a board.

Hybrid systems add a battery, which raises the upfront cost. They also let a plant shave its peak demand charges and ride through short outages. For sectors like textiles, auto components and cold storage, that reliability has a price tag of its own.

Swelect, based in Chennai, has been in the solar business for over two decades. It makes inverters, modules and mounting structures, and it runs its own manufacturing in Tamil Nadu. The company has installed rooftop and ground-mount projects across the country.

The hybrid inverter space in India is getting crowded. Established players and a wave of new entrants are all chasing the same C&I buyer. Price, service reach and after-sales support usually decide who wins a tender.

Battery costs have fallen in India over the past few years, though they remain the biggest line item in a hybrid system. Government subsidies for C&I storage are limited compared with the residential rooftop scheme. Most industrial buyers still justify storage on outage costs and diesel savings, not on subsidy.

Swelect's move follows a broader push by Indian inverter makers to bundle storage with solar. As grid tariffs rise and discom reliability stays uneven in many states, the pitch to factories is straightforward: generate your own power, store what you don't use, and cut the diesel.

The company has not said whether the new inverters will be made at its existing facilities or through a contract manufacturer.
