Waaree Renewable Wins 800 MWac Solar EPC Projects in India

Waaree Renewable Technologies has been awarded contracts to build and operate 800 MWac of solar power under the EPC model, according to Saur Energy.

Waaree Renewable Technologies announced that it has secured EPC contracts for a total of 800 MWac of solar capacity across several sites in India. The projects are being funded by a mix of private developers and state‑backed entities. Under the EPC model, Waaree will design, procure, construct and commission the plants, then hand them over to the owners for operation.

The contracts cover a range of ground‑mounted solar farms in the states of Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. The total installed capacity of 800 MWac is expected to generate roughly 1.2 TWh of electricity per year, enough to power over 300,000 homes.

Impact on the renewable market

The award adds a significant amount of capacity to India's growing solar pipeline. Analysts say the deal shows strong demand for turnkey solutions as developers look to shorten project timelines. Waaree's ability to bundle engineering, procurement and construction under one roof helps owners avoid the coordination challenges that can delay commissioning.

Industry observers note that the 800 MWac figure represents a sizable share of the 1.5 GW of solar projects slated for commissioning in India this year. If all the plants are completed on schedule, they will help the country move toward its target of 500 GW of renewable capacity by 2030.

Waaree Renewable Technologies, founded in 2009, has grown to become one of India's largest solar EPC firms. The company offers services that span from site assessment and design to module mounting and grid connection. In the past five years, Waaree has delivered more than 5 GW of solar projects across the country.

Chief Executive Officer Rajesh Kumar said the new contracts "prove that our end‑to‑end approach works for developers who need reliable, on‑time delivery." He added that the firm will continue to invest in local manufacturing and workforce training to keep costs low and quality high.

Financial and policy backdrop

The projects are being financed through a combination of bank loans, green bonds and equity from the developers. Recent policy moves, such as the extension of the accelerated depreciation benefit and the introduction of a new solar auction scheme, have made financing more attractive for large‑scale solar builds.

According to Saur Energy, the EPC contracts include performance guarantees that require the plants to achieve at least 85 % of their rated output for the first five years. This clause is meant to protect investors and ensure that the generated power reaches the grid as expected.

What comes next

Waaree plans to start mobilising crews and equipment within the next two months. The first phase, a 200 MWac farm in Rajasthan, is slated for commissioning by the end of 2025. Subsequent phases will follow a similar timeline, with the final plant expected to be operational in early 2027.

The company says it will work closely with local authorities to secure land use permits and grid connection agreements, aiming to keep the projects on track and avoid delays.
