India Boosts Rooftop Solar Adoption with Subsidy Extension to 2026
The Indian government extends rooftop solar subsidies until 2026 to accelerate renewable energy adoption.
India Extends Rooftop Solar Subsidy Program
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has announced the extension of its rooftop solar subsidy program until March 31, 2026. This move aims to encourage more households and businesses to adopt solar energy, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and lowering electricity bills.
Key Features of the Subsidy Scheme
- Up to 40% subsidy for residential rooftop solar systems up to 3 kW
- 20% subsidy for systems between 3 kW and 10 kW
- Subsidies capped at 20% for group housing societies and residential welfare associations
- Central financial assistance (CFA) provided directly to beneficiaries
Eligibility and Application Process
To avail of the subsidy, applicants must install grid-connected rooftop solar systems through empaneled vendors. The application process is streamlined through the National Portal for Rooftop Solar, ensuring transparency and ease of access.
Impact on Renewable Energy Goals
This extension aligns with India's target of achieving 40 GW of rooftop solar capacity by 2026. The subsidy is expected to drive significant growth in residential and commercial solar installations, contributing to the country's renewable energy targets.
